PUTRAJAYA: Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik has resigned from his position as a minister.

He made the announcement today during a special press conference at the Education Ministry.

“After meeting the Prime Minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) earlier and following the advice from (someone who is) like a father to me, a leader and a great statesman, with a willing but a heavy heart, I, Maszlee Malik return my position as the Education Minister back to the prime minister effective Jan 3.

“I am a strong believer in our beloved premier who is very insightful in his ideas to lead this country.

“I am undeniably loyal to him, to the party and the government. I believe whatever decision made and the advice to me by the premier is in the best interest of the country.

“And I’m here to serve the country in whatever position I’m in. Thank you.”

Maszlee is Simpang Renggam MP and a member of the Bersatu supreme leadership council.

He was previously criticised for various issues including introduction of black shoes and khat.
